FAQs - booking Caribbean flights

  • What is the recommended way to find cheap flights to the Caribbean?

To save money on flights to the Caribbean, try to book your airfare in advance. Some airlines release tickets up to a year ahead. If your schedule is flexible, you can search for different dates for cheaper flights. Passengers who don’t mind a few layovers along the way may also be able to find cheaper flights from Australia to the Caribbean. For example, a flight from Melbourne to Port of Spain that has three layovers is cheaper than a flight with two layovers.

  • Where can I stop along the way?

As there are no direct flights to the Caribbean, this is a great opportunity to break up the long flight and enjoy a few nights at one of the layover points along the way. Qatar Airways flights from Melbourne to Punta Cana stop in Doha and New York. If you are travelling to Montego Bay, Jamaica, American Airlines flights from Sydney have layovers in Los Angeles and Miami. Travelling to San Juan, Puerto Rico? Flights from Sydney stop in Dallas Fort Worth and Miami.

  • Which visa do I need to enter the Caribbean?

If you are travelling to the Caribbean as a tourist, Australians can stay for up to 90 days without a visa. This includes the countries Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, Sint Maarten and the Bahamas, among others. To enter the Caribbean, Australians require a passport with at least six months of validity beyond the intended stay. Some countries will also ask travellers to show an onward ticket.

  • Which airport should I choose when flying to the Dominican Republic?

If a Caribbean holiday is on your bucket list, you can find upscale resorts in the Dominican Republic. The faster flights from Melbourne to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the north take roughly 28 hours, but they are generally more expensive. You can find cheaper flights to Puerto Plata International Airport (POP), but they usually take longer to arrive.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Australia to Caribbean?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Australia to Caribbean.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from Australia to Caribbean?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from Australia to Caribbean is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from Australia to Caribbean?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from Australia to Caribbean with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Australia to Caribbean?

This trip was the most comfortable one I have ever experienced, the team was excellent and very helpful. I am so glad I picked Qatar Airways.

Seats very small and unable to pre purchase internet or seat upgrades

Seat experience average as they use old 777 for must flights despite full load. Qr fares are higher than other airlines for same routes so they should at least upgrade the planes . Food is average and same dishes for months on most routes I travelled at least - the Arabian rice dish “Maqboos” on every flight for months - I am sure there are other food Arabian dishes ?? It’s become boring ! Crew is always good which makes up for these things but hey confirm us what we need

Overall good. Food choice in business class is a concern as same dishes on every flight for months. Crew is great and seats on this sector were fine . They need to have more variety in dining

Very unimpressed that I was dumped from the seat I had booked and paid for after check in. Apparently a family wanted to sit together, however as they all were adults I think they should have pre booked their seats like I did. I will be approaching Qatar for a refund. That and the dreadful state of the flooding toilets made me wonder how they managed to be voted the best airline. Not worth the money.

Moved seats, didn't accommodate requests to change seats even though other seats were available.

Do I need to repeat my complaints about my lost carry on bag?

As gold member there is no priority checkin. Meaning you either have to board with your zone or last with business class pax. As economy pax all the baggage bays are filled by the time you arrive

I had first class service from them. A little late taking off, but no major problem

It was good no problems made it on time for the next flight overseas!

Great. Food going from Australia to the US was better than other way around, but still needs improvement in terms of quality and quantity!!!

Plane 3 hours late. Missed connection. No help from gate staff. App horrible. Lost connection repeatedly. No service desk. Finally got help from young girl driving cart.

Flight attendant gave incorrect information and no immigration/customs forms!

My flight was delayed. They boarded us, then no sooner were we on the plane, they made us get off again and wait another 45 minutes before doing it all over again.

Checkin was painful and slow! Lady didn’t seem to know what was going on and couldn’t explain the delay. Seemed ahe couldnt see the computer scree and we couldn’t hear her talk through her mask.

Late out of the gate, late to takeoff. No screens on plane. Uncomfortable window seat.

The senior flight attendants were amazing. Totally different vibe from other carriers. Easy 10 hour flight in Business Class. Great food. Good humor as well.

Boarding in Paris was a nightmare for us. Why passengers have to get checked luggage tickets and then to go to counter to get luggage weight and send to the conveyor? We counted 14 security and airline checks before getting in the plane. We will never again use United or travel to France, neither stop by IAD airport.

Being stick waiting for gate at ORD cause me to almost miss my connecting flight…being deaf United made no no effort to keep me updated as I couldn’t hear the PA

The ground crew in Houston were not friendly. The security staff were very rude and reflected an attitude of superiority with rude remarks.

Cabin felt crammed Snacks are lame But crew was super efficient getting us out on time despite delay

The flight was late and we missed this connecting flight. American Airlines refused to put us anywhere for the night for their snafu. We had to find our own accommodations in Miami, and it was expensive for a crappy hotel.

I have long legs, my foot was out in the aisle and when a flight attendant came walking by and I didn't notice, instead of saying "excuse me" or anything like that, she kicked my foot. Extremely rude

I was a little disappointed of not having an android charger. Only one it was for an iPhone. I've flown American in the past and had access to one.

My seat was horrible. I think it was broken in several places. Other than that, the crew was great and the plane was clean

Flight didn’t get dinner on business. I was starving!

AA can't control the weather. But the airplane was hot and stuffy while stuck on the runway with a broken entertainment system.

We boarded after several delays due to mechanical failure and a gate change. The seat cushion in the exit row was very compressed and offered no cushion, making the four-hour journey reasonably uncomfortable. The WiFi worked for a few people, but for most, it did not, and you cannot get entertainment unless you can connect—American Airlines flights do not have seatback screens, and you must use your mobile phone.

My seat was wonky...hard and not much padding. I sat next to the Jumpseat for the flight attendant. Thoroughly enjoyed not have a third seat in that row! Flight attendants were amazing. I couldn't answer the "food quality" question as there is no food served on my short flight. I commend the pilot as I know it was super gusty when we landed. Thanks

It was good overall but the prices of snacks are ridiculous.

Poor planning meant the plane was delayed an hour, then a thunder storm started and the ground staff couldn't work. Eventual arrival in Santiago was 3 hours late resulting in missed connections and the need to buy new tickets.

Previous flight from Melbourne to Brisbane was late. I had 1 hr 40 min to get to the connecting flight. That was not enough time as I had to take a shuttle bus to change terminal. Then needed to get through security and customs. The airline was announcing my name to board at 9:10. The take off time was scheduled for 9:40 but I was again one of the last to board at about 9:20. Kayak needs to allow more time for these connections

Almost missed boarding, mass line up made me be the last person. Wish the announcement was more loud, didn’t hear what seats or zones were ready. Being last also made finding space for my roller bag. Fortunately the flight attendants made it work!

Facilities and staff were great, but the company let us down. Just four hours into the flight, they ran out of ALL snacks. Perhaps this was the first time they ever did this run and had no idea afar might be needed? Or maybe they didn't know how many passengers would be abourd? Or did they just not care? (Oh, and the meals were very sub-par. One was so bad that I didn't finish it. )

Service is pretty good. Sandwiches have to be purchased but I’ve bought my own food. Seat was comfortable and various movies to chose from.

Good service was quite limited but that is due to short flight.

Terrible experience. Flight was delayed then canceled. They had no clue how to rebook us. Had to wait in line to take to a gate agent for 2 hours. Absolutely terrible from start to finish.

On time, comfort, service. No breakfast available as per menu, the chicken wrap I got instead was poor and poorly presented (in Saran wrap, as if made at home by the pilot)

Very good once you’re in the system. The kiosk never works for passports

Full compliments to Captain for all four landing. Crew could be more polite and nice.

Business class seats were very dated on my plane. Very little storage, charging ports were not easily accessible, tv screen kept flopping away. Vegetarian food was disappointing: hardly any protein and severely under-seasoned. Crew was lovely.

The seats in row 31 are terrible and small and uncomfortable. Don't ever sit there. The window seat is so close to the curve of the plane is so annoying. I paid extra for this seat and I hated all 10 hours in it.

The information in the airport, and the app was different. Be aware. Different terminals in Stuttgart, so we had to walk a lot. It's a small airport so it wasn't a big deal, but it was ludicrous to see the error in the app.

Food was terrible , crew were excellent , IFE was dire . Overall comfortable seat and cabin. Nothing special .

American Airlines seemed to run a 'dry' flight. No alcohol was offered at any point with meals. Breakfast was a bit tasteless. The 'hot pocket' whatever that is, was horrid breadish pastry with very little filling. Decaf coffee was horrid. Seats didn't seem as wide or spacious as usual, especually for a ten hour flight.

I like Cityflyer as a semi-stand alone part of BA but I dislike mainstream BA thoroughly. A budget airline with budget service but with normal flag carrier prices.

Poor BA get a lot of stick and have some problems getting your bags to the same destination BUT the whole experience is very much 5 star and probably due to excellent, helpful and sooo British staff. We travelled in economy plus.

I didn’t receive my luggage until day 5 of a 9 day trip. During a layover a crew member made a very insulting comment about where I was visiting and where my partner was from in England.

5 days later I have not yet received my luggage so terrible and unacceptable

My problem was with the onward connection between London Heathrow and Washington IAD. The flight was several times changed.
